Nightfall a. and b., 2024. 40” x 31”. plaster, acrylic, oil and graphite on paper.
The Nightfall series draws inspiration from Dawoud Bey’s “Night Coming Tenderly, Black”: a series of landscape photographs that imagine pathways taken by fugitive slaves on the Underground Railroad. The work considers the idea of fugitivity (defined as freeing from persecution or intolerable circumstance), historically, and also in contemporary life.
